Judicial Endorsements Committee

Our Judicial Endorsements Committee responds to all judicial endorsement requests, conducts interviews, and presents recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Expanding legal access to the Latinx community and advocating for the increased representation of Latinxs in the judiciary are central to our mission. We are excited to promote opportunities for experienced lawyers to join the bench. We continue our advocacy on judicial appointments in collaboration with the Bay Area Latinx bar and our statewide coalition.

  • In 2021, we welcomed two EBLRLA-endorsed judicial candidates to the bench: Judge Elena Condes and Judge David Pereda. Justice Victor Rodríguez—formerly an Alameda County Superior Court judge and also endorsed by the EBLRLA—was appointed to serve as Associate Justice of the Court of Appeal for the First Appellate District.
  • In 2022, we welcomed two EBLRLA-endorsed judicial candidates to the Alameda County Superior Court bench: then Commissioner Ruben Sundeen and Verónica A. Ríos Reddick.
  • Nominated by President Joe Biden, the U.S. Senate confirmed EBLRLA-endorsed judicial candidate Araceli Martínez-Olguín to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in February 2023 to become the second Latina to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The first Latina to serve on that court is Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers.
