 EBLRLA’s 2017 Judicial Excellence Recognition

and Scholarship Awards Dinner

Join us in recognizing Judicial Excellence Honoree Honorable Delia Trevino, Superior Court, Alameda County.  The evening’s Keynote Address will be delivered by Maria Blanco, Executive Director of the Undocumented Legal Services Center at UC Davis.  Followed by EBLRLA’s La Luchadora Honoree, Roseanne Torres, Board Member, Oakland Unified School District and Tag Team Luchadores Honorees: Immigrant Rights Program, Centro Legal De La Raza.

The multi-decade struggle to diversify the profession and provide equal opportunity to equitable education continues.  Eventually we will prevail.  We invite you to join us in a delightful evening that will support Latino/a students who will receive scholarships that will help defray the mounting costs of a legal education.

Valued at $5,000, this scholarship provides a free Barbri bar prep course and a $1,000 living stipend. The deadline for the scholarship application is Tuesday February 16, 5pm. Any Latina/Latino California 3L who is planning to pursue a public interest career, and who plans to sit for the July 2016 California Bar Exam, is welcome to apply for our co-sponsored scholarship. Governor Brown Appoints Delia Trevino to Alameda County Superior Court

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of Delia Trevino to a judgeship in the Alameda County Superior Court.

Trevino, 45, of Oakland, has served as a deputy district attorney at the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office since 1998. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University. Trevino fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge John M. True. She is a Democrat.

Governor Brown Selects Stanford Law Professor Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar for California Supreme Court!

Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar as his choice for associate justice of the California Supreme Court.

Cuéllar, 41, of Stanford, has been a Stanford Law School professor since 2001 and was appointed Stanley Morrison Professor of Law in 2012. He has taught administrative law, criminal law and international law, among other subjects. Cuéllar has been director of Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies since 2013 and Professor of Political Science, by courtesy, at Stanford’s School of Humanities and Sciences since 2010. He served as co-director of Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation from 2011 to 2013.

The Governor’s nomination must be submitted to the State Bar’s Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation and confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments. The Commission on Judicial Appointments consists of Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, Attorney General Kamala D. Harris and senior presiding justice of the state Court of Appeal Joan Dempsey Klein. If confirmed by the Commission, the nominee will appear on the November 4th ballot for voter approval.   For the full announcement click here.
